As demand for medical spa services continues to grow into 2016, it may become more difficult for the prospective patient to decide exactly where to bring his or her business. Due to this increasing popularity, it is becoming rare to live in an area where there is only one medical spa to choose from. A medical spa that wants to attract prospective patients needs to deliver its services in a comforting and professional manner as well as demonstrate its commitment to medical, legal, and ethical standards.
Too often we see client competitors that skirt around the issue of a physician’s presence at the location. While some states merely require a physician to be nearby, not onsite, many that claim to be physician-owned and operated are misrepresenting the physician’s actual availability and presence. In addition to its medical aestheticians, a reputable medical spa should make its physician(s) available for regular patient interaction and procedures. A customer-facing physician projects professionalism, reliability, and a desire to serve the patients above all else.
Another important consideration is the medical equipment that is used in certain procedures. Is the equipment new or used? Some medical spas may opt for the vast savings in buying a used laser to cut down on costs. Depending on the age and mileage on that laser, its use may not be as effective or safe. Purchasing used lasers is neither uncommon nor frowned upon, however, their condition must be made aware to the patient. Some treatments that have newer technology may produce more efficient and cost-effective results and can even direct a patient from choosing a practice that uses the old laser to one that offers the latest and greatest technologies.
A patient must be able to feel comfortable with the certified, trained, and professional staff. Board certifications for physicians and certifications for aestheticians should be displayed within the medical spa and on the website. Staying up-to-date with training should be undertaken to learn the latest techniques, technologies, and procedures to be able to offer the most recent and advanced treatments.
